Adults around the world collect a variety of items; including toys. Purposes vary and often include financial investment, heirlooms, hobbies, and sentimental value. Many collectors spend quite a lot of money to complete their collection. Some older toys have sold for thousands of dollars, but to maintain worth, they must remain in the original packaging, and unopened. Let's discuss a few reasons why adults collect toys.

Hobby

People simply enjoy something to do to occupy free time. Some people collect only toys from their own childhood where others may collect a specific brand of toy. Hobbyists enjoy both the pursuit of the item they wish to obtain as well as owning that rare item.

Sentimental Purposes

Ahh... that walk down memory lane. As we grow older, we often leave behind many of the things we enjoyed as children. Our adult life rarely grants the opportunity to truly enjoy the old toys that brought us such joy in our younger years. We tend to lose, sell or donate all of those great toys so that the younger generation may receive the same happiness.

Don't let that huge price tag lead you to believe all others sell for such an exorbitant sum; in truth, older Barbies sell for a few hundred or maybe a few thousand dollars. Many collectors pay a great sum for old Barbie clothing as well.

Video games are becoming a very sought-after collectible. They're often referred to as the baseball card of our time. Sure, people still collect baseball cards, but video games are quickly gaining ground on this widely-known favorite collectible.

Adults need to enjoy life just like children do. Why not invest their hard-earned free time into rediscovering their youth by collecting toys? Remember your favorite action figure, or spinning ballerina baby doll you cherished? Many of our favorite childhood toys are now worth quite a lot of money, so again I ask, why not?
