PMP certification is not just an educational certificate but a certificate of project management Professionals therefore it is highly necessary that abilities required in the industry are tested through the PMP exam. In order to ensure that the PMP certificate is conferred to only those people who have realization of modern project management practices PMI designs their PMP exam in such a way that only suitable candidate should be able to pass the examination.
From time to time business surroundings is changing fast therefore there is shift of knowledge essential to manage projects in new business atmosphere. Marketplace environment can include opponents, govt policies, resource availability, lessons learned from prior projects (this shapes the organizational processes and systems).
To ensure that recent market and PM practices and skills of certified PM, both are aligned in the same direction PMI conducts RDS (role delineated study) from time to time, usually in 5-7 years. Based on the feedback PMI examination pattern is changed and sometimes input is used for the revision of PMBoK.
RDS commissioned in 2009 is responded by the project managers from 98 countries and these individuals represents virtually all the important industries. Based on this global RDS, it was decided to change the PMP examination pattern. 30-Aug is the last date of the exam on present pattern and from 31-August PMP students will be evaluated based on the new exam pattern.
What is not changing on 31-August
o PMBoK Version
o Eligibility criteria for PMP exam
o Any other exam (like Certified associate project manager) pattern of Project management institute
o No# questions and question style. They are still objective type
o Examination report card
What is changing on 31-Aug-11
o Complexity of questions. Because code of conduct and professional ethics related questions are integrated with the knowledge areas & domains therefore questions will be more confusing and complex than the existing one.
o Nearly 30% of the PMP exam content will change
o Professional and social responsibility content (domain 6) will be tested in every other domain rather than as a separate domain
