Adjusting Your Life To Not Smoking Cigarettes

By:

Have you ever noticed exactly when the times are that you smoke cigarettes the most. Likely there are some times when you smoke more than others and there are times that automatically prompt you to want to smoke out of sheer habit alone. If you are ever to be successful in quitting smoking, you will have to dissect all of the occasions and reason that you smoke in order to make the changes necessary that will help you the most. This process might be a little slow in coming, but then all of the times and reasons that developed into the smoking habit did not develop overnight either.

The first thing you have to learn is a little self control. Whether you are trying to quit smoking completely or just cut back drastically, you will have to take it one step at a time, one cigarette at a time. When you are accustomed to lighting a cigarette every time you have a whim to, you have to learn to control those whims until you have readjusted yourself to doing without the cigarettes every time you turn around.

The best places to start are the times when you smoke that are the most inconvenient for you. Situations where you can not smoke easily should be the easiest ones to cut out first. Obviously, when you bathe or shower is not a convenient time to smoke. Learn to do without a cigarette from the time you are preparing to get into the tub or shower until after you are all finished and dressed. For a woman, applying make up is a bad time to smoke, for a man it would be while shaving. For a woman it also might be while cooking, for a man it could be while mowing the yard or working on their car. These are times when it is not easy to smoke and accomplish a task at the same time. You will likely find, when you really think about it, that there are many such times as these off and on during your day and evening when it will easier to not smoke than to smoke.

Once you have gained back some control over your smoking, then you can move on to some of the tougher times. This is, as you already know, times like after meals, with coffee, talking on the phone, and while you are driving. These times will be much harder to overcome because you have programmed yourself over the years to associate all of these occasions with smoking. You can begin to not smoke a cigarette after at least one meal of the day. If you make quick trips to the store, leave the cigarettes at home. If you do not have them you can not smoke them. That is a good thought to keep in your head at all times. During this quitting or cutting back process.
