Addison Texas: A High Rated Dallas Suburb

By:

As modern cities go, Addison rates highly among Dallas suburbs, even in the midst of the recent recession. Located only twenty minutes from the downtown area via the Dallas North Tollway, it is an optimal commute town with many corporate strongholds located in the area as well. Pizza Hut, Comp USA, and Mary Kay Cosmetics are only three of the many national corporations with headquarters in Addison. Addision has many residential options, including meticulously pre-planned communities, new apartments, and condos. Best of all, prices are falling, so this may be your chance to move. However, the cost of living in Addison is fairly high, about 10% more than the US average. Addison is home to approximately 14,000 people, although it has gone under a slight decrease in recent years.

The town of Addison has many options for entertainment and shopping. One of the largest headquarters for shopping and dining is the Galleria Dallas, with many high-end stores, restaurants, and its own ice skating rink. The Valley View Shopping Center and Addison Walk Shopping Center provide other, more economical options. The high density of restaurants is supported by the business class in the area, ensuring that options for eating out are always available despite it being a relatively small town. Addison has several of its own DART Rail Stations as well as an airport. In addition, Addison has many cultural events of its own, such as Oktoberfest and Kaboomtown. These provide income for the town as well as needed diversion.

The Dallas Independent School District is the main district for Addison--however, there are no public schools in the town itself. Families who want to send their kids to public school will have to send them to other towns. However, there are several private options in the area. The Trinity Christian Academy and Greenhill Schools are two K through 12 options for schooling. Trinity Christian Academy in particular gets overall high ratings from parents and students who attend it. Parents in particular appreciate the small-community atmosphere and the high level of teacher involvement.

Unfortunately, Addison crime rates are rising--especially property crime. The property crime rate of 9% is unusually high even for Dallas county. Violent crime is more comparable, at 0.74%, however it is still rather high for the state overall. Even so, the rigid divisions in the town make most of it safe for walking around, especially in the more well-lit areas.
