Adding Ringtones To Your Iphone

By:

This discussion shows you how to create free ring tones for your iPhone, all you need is iTunes and some songs you already own. this method is tested and works with iTunes 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware. The only downside is you need to use songs that are DRM free (this means that the tracks are unprotected, some Itunes songs are DRM protected and this will cause this method to fail).

How to create ringtones using only iTunes.

1. Find the track you want to create your ring tone from and right click/ then select 'Get Info'.

2. Click on the 'Options' tab and scroll down to 'Start Time' and 'Stop Time'. This is the starting point to cut your ringtone from and how long the ringtone is going to be. Insert a start and stop time in these boxes but remember the total length must be under 30 seconds. Click OK,

3. From this screen right click on your cut song then select 'Convert Selection to ACC'. This will activate your chosen start and stop times.
(If your menu item shows a different format you will need to change your preferences, so go to 'iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing'.
You then need to change 'Import Using' to 'AAC Encoder'

4. find your tune in your iTunes music folder. Click on the song and drag it to your desktop. If you dont want to keep the clipped track in Itunes then simply return to iTunes folder and delete the clipped song from your iTunes library.

5. Right click the song on your desktop. click on 'Get Info'. Now change the extension from .M4a to .M4r, this is so itunes recognizes it as a ringtone

All that is left to be done is to simply double click on the file, this will then give you the ability to load the ringtone to your iTunes library and load it on your iphone.
