Ad Tracking Benefits

By:

Many businesses use ad tracking to determine the effectiveness of their advertisements and promotional activities. This advertising tracking helps companies estimate their return on investments and make adjustments to advertising campaigns as necessary. If a campaign is found to be ineffective, it can be modified or dropped altogether for a better, more effective strategy. Also called ad tracking effectiveness and post-tracking, this method includes many elements including unaided and aided advertising awareness, brand awareness and message recall, brand image, brand trial, demographics, market segment characteristics, and top of mind advertising awareness among many others.

How often tracking is performed depends on many factors such as the purchase cycle. Faster cycles mean that tracking can be performed on a continuous basis while slower cycles may need to be pulsed, or taken at longer intervals such as three to six months. A longitudinal study with a fixed panel of participants may be preferred by some companies. Others may choose to work with matched samples of participants. Most of these studies may be conducted through online sources which can provide speedy and accurate data at generally much lower costs than other methods.

Many media outlets such as television, print media and radio as well as Internet sources benefit from these tracking methods. For instance, a study participant may view a still or stills of a television ad and asked if he or she recognizes the ad and can identify the brand. These results may then be analyzed as a correlation of how aware consumers are of the product or brand to how much has been spent on the advertising campaign.

Not having some kind of tracking method can have many negative consequences. Continuing with an effective ad campaign can result in a loss of revenue and possibly even cause harm to a company's reputation if identified with a promotional campaign that does not work. Marketers can not only find out which ads generate revenue, and which ones do not, but they can also use the information to help allocate the overall budget. By utilizing Ad Tracking, businesses can maximize their profits while minimizing their losses.
