Acura Used Cars- The Rl

By:

Acura used cars are usually a good bet when deciding on a used vehicle to look for that has good reliability ratings. When looking at Acura used vehicles I was interesting in their top sedan, the Acura RL. This vehicle actually is an off shoot of the Acura Legend which was very popular in North America back in the eighties and nineties. Ill be looking at RL models from 2005 to 2009 (the third generation) because of some of the advancements Honda as put into their top sedan. I also want to see how this particular model stands up as a used vehicle to look at.

I looked at a 2007 RL and came away with a feeling that Acura was going to do whatever it took to make this a premium luxury sedan. One of the features that the RL has is the Super Handling All-wheel Drive; this splits power to the rear wheels to help with cornering. Some other features that come standard with the Acura RL are ABS, Traction/antiskid control, keyless entry, front side air bags, curtain side airbags, steering linked Xeon headlamps and a voice activated navigation system just to name a few.

I found two different fuel statistics from 2005 to 2009. In 2005 the Acura RL had a fuel rating of 12.9-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 8.4-litres, per 100km, for highway driving. In 2009 the RL had a fuel rating of 13.3-litres, per 100km, for city driving and 9.0-litres, per 100km, for highway driving.

In 2005 it was thought that Honda would let Acura use a V8 engine for the first time but instead chose to use a V6, 3.5-litre engine that produced 300 horsepower. Later it was revised to 290 horsepower and 260 pounds, per feet of torque (this was due to the measurement standards changing the way it now measures horsepower and torque).

Lets take a look at the pros and cons of the Acura RL as a used vehicle:

1-A leading online consumer watch dog gave the Acura RL a good rating for reliability as a used vehicle.
2-When researching the Acura RL, I visited an online forum for the RL which mentioned problems with a bad component in the A/C compressor.
3-There have been no major problems with its transmission but there has been talk of fluid leaking from the hose fittings.
4-I could not find any crash test results from two leading organizations that handle these controlled crashes.

I hope this helps if youre looking at Acura used cars like the RL.
