Acne Medicine: What You Need To Know About Treating Your Skin

By:

Statistics has shown that there has been a rise in the number of people suffering from acne. Factors which attribute to this could be due to genetics, hormone changes, stressful lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and improper skincare. Mild to moderate acnes are treated differently. In the case if you are having mild acne, you do not need any acne medicine.

Yes, you read that right. As a mild acne sufferer, you can have clear skin within few days without taking acne medicine. This is due to the fact that our body has the immunity to fight against bacteria which are causing havocs on our skin. The only thing you can do is establish a routine facial regime using comedogenic soap and water on your acne prone skin once in the morning and before you go to bed.

When is The Time to Visit Your Doctor?

That will depend on your personal threshold level. Once you feel very uncomfortable with your acne, immediately consult your doctor. If it is a severe acne case, you should never try to apply acne medicine on your own without the direction from your doctor. This type of self-medication will not only slow down your healing process but aggravates further.

In most cases, doctors will prescribe acne medicine such as benzoyl peroxide and medicated lotion, cream and gels to kill bacteria on the affected areas. These products usually work and your acne will start clear off within a few days. However, there are certain cases where these acne medicines will not work on your skin. In the event where these acne medicines will not work for you, you should go back to your doctor immediately and ask for another form of treatment.

When simple treatments no longer work for you, the doctor may prescribe oral antibiotic together with other forms of treatments for your acne. If the acne is really big, the doctor may decide to drain them and put you on oral antibiotic for a few days. In most cases, severe acne will take sometime to cure. It could take about 6 to 8 weeks before the inflammation on your skin will clear up, so be patient.

Sometimes, you will develop scars and blemishes on the affected areas of your skin. With the advancement in technology, laser therapy has been used to remove such scars. You can find out more information on how to get rid those scars and blemishes from your dermatologist
