Acid Reflux Remedies With Just One Pill A Day

By:

Heartburn, GERD, Acid reflux disease or whatever you want to call it are terms that are used to describe anything from mild indigestion to severe digestive distress that feels like a heart attack. I do not have, nor have I ever had an ulcer, H-pylori or any other stomach ailment but I have been treated for acid reflux for 30-years.

I am unusual in that I just feel constantly hungry if I do not treat my acid reflux daily. I know I am not hungry because I will have just had a meal. Thirty minutes can go by and I will feel famished. This just can't be. Since we all look after our weight it is not so good for me that I should want to eat all the time. I take one little pill each morning for heartburn before I brush my teeth to prevent this unrequited hunger.

Chronic heartburn can be more than just a bother. Those of us that have this ailment are at risk of having their throats worn away by the bile and acids that are produced in the stomach for digestive purposes. Acid reflux could even cause cancer. Going without treatment can risk the esophagus that attaches your stomach to your throat to permanent damage by acids. Reflux can be as serious as constantly throwing up the bile, acid and pepsin that your stomach produces normally to aid in digestion. In my case I just feel so ravenous and I know that I am not because I just ate.

Visit your local drug store and speak to the pharmacist. They will have suggestions and recommendations for heartburn. It could be that simple. Drugs such as Zantac and Prilosec used to be only available through a doctors prescription but not anymore. You can get a 30-day supply just by walking into your drug store and asking for it. The drug stores do keep these more expensive drugs under lock and key and it will require a drug store attendant to get them for you.

If this does not work after a few weeks then you should see a doctor. No way around it. An internist or a gastrologist, stomach doctor, is what you need to seek. Insurance plans can make suggestion of who is on your plan and in network. Word to the wise - make sure the doctor and the testing facility are both in network or you can get hosed. These tests involving stomach acids like a lower GI's, CAT scans etc are expensive so make sure you protect yourself.

Treatment could be as simple as a more powerful prescription drug like Prevacid or something else. No matter. You should get looked at immediately!

People who have acid reflux usually have it the rest of their lives unless is it just pregnancy heartburn. Reflux is not something that generally gets cured. I am now a proud member of AARP and, as I said before, have had it since I was 19. I take my medication everyday whether I think I need it or not.

After a meal is when most people experience most severe symptoms. That is when the gastric juices are at their most active. Pepsin is activated to begin the digestive process for food absorption into the system. Not eating late at night is helpful as well as not eating acid reflux foods. Some say it feels like a heart attached while others actually vomit into their throats. Mine, like I said, just makes me feel ravenous. I think I got off luckier than most. Either way ? get treated. Do something. It is not going away and it can only get worse.

I have a brother who consumed Tums at an alarming rate. He hadn't noticed his habit until I asked him about it. He said he had heartburn constantly so I suggested Prilosec. He now takes this little pill each day and he feels much better. From time to time he says taking two in a day, like Thanksgiving does the trick. He is now symptom free.
