Acid Reflux: Baby Reflux Wedge

Acid reflux in babies is a common condition which affects around 20% of all babies before the age of nine months. There are a number of different ways to treat baby acid reflux and often a combination of treatments will be necessary in order to successfully treat the symptoms. I found the baby reflux wedge to be the most effective form of treatment.

The most common symptoms of acid reflux in newborns are breathing difficulties, extreme crying and screaming, refusal to eat, the need to eat small meals, spitting up excessively, and gagging. Both of my sons showed several of these signs before being diagnosed with baby acid reflux. Once the diagnosis was made and medication was given, I immediately began researching the condition to find out other ways to make my babies comfortable. That's when I found about the baby reflux wedge pillow.

The baby reflux wedge pillow is specially designed to help control the issues related to acid reflux in infants with help from gravity. When babies lie on the pillow, they are positioned in a certain way that allows the food and acid to stay in the stomach. When a baby lies flat on his back, the acid tends to move back up the esophagus, creating a painful burning situation.

I used a baby reflux wedge with both of my sons, and could see their symptoms immediately improve. The amount of spitting up decreased, and they were able to sleep better. Improved rest can help reduce the symptoms noticed each day. This was certainly true for my boys. Specifically, they became far less fussy and were generally happier. As most babies do, each of them outgrew the reflux, but the pillow was invaluable for them while they were still dealing with the problem. If you have a baby suffering from acid reflux, or even just showing symptoms of the problem, make sure one of the first steps you take in his treatment is to purchase a special reflux wedge.
