Accounting System Of Martial Arts Business

By:

The old saying "You can't manage what you don't measure" is so important in running your martial business. If it's not that important with every other area of your business (and of course it is), it could not be more important to have a reliable accounting system in place to measure the money side of your business.

As we said earlier, money is the lifeblood of your business, and there's no need to feel, think, act or be apologetic about this. And if you don't know on a daily, weekly and monthly basis how much money you have, what you're spending it on, what you are earning, and what you own and owe you will never even know if you are getting ahead, or behind. Your first signal will be that you can't pay your bills and this is way to late.

So where do we start? Well, the first thing is to have a computer based accounting package, a bank account, a point of sale (POS) system, and a person to enter the data.

It might be surprising that I mention the bank account and even the accounting package and POS, but there are many small business operators out there who do not have these in place. No wonder so many of these people fail in the first or subsequent years.

The next thing you need to make sure you have is crystal clear knowledge about what a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet are and, very importantly, how to read these. Reading the numbers of these documents and comprehending what these number are telling you about the business is akin to an author writing a book and people understanding or comprehending the written words of that book. The business writes the numbers for the profit and loss and balance sheets just as the author writes the novel. As the owner of a martial business, you read or interpret these numbers, just as the consumer reads and comprehends the content of a novel purchased form the local book store.
