Founder:
Hailing from a family of not traditional ministers and preachers, David Bergs life was spent in service to Christ. in the late sixties he founded the Children of God.The organization at that time was composed only of young people., but later drawing followers from many different walks of life, the group began to grow increasingly fast and later became known as the Family International.

Berg's principal legacy is undoubtedly the organization that he created. He is also remembered for his controversial views, written about in a number of "letters" which he wrote that he authored over nearly three decades. Also within his time Father David spoke rebuked mainstream Christianity for their failure to follow the teachings of Christ more closely, saying that followers of Christ should mold their lives within the context of the early church, living a socialistic style, simple life and devoting as much of their time and resources as possible to preaching the good news of the Gospel.

In the Fall of 1994, David Berg passed away. As a reminder of his influence, during the first 25 years of the movement's history, Father David inspired members to personally share the Gospel with 250 million+ people in more than 80 countries, of whom nearly 18 million accepted Jesus as their Savior.

From the 1970's and onward, volunteers from 'The Family International' has had a presence throughout South America. TFI members have committed themselves to bring help, aid and attention to the needy, spreading the good news of the Gospel, and encouraging the depressed and downhearted.

South America:
TFI workers have undertaken various projects to provide assistance to those in need in old folks homes, orphanages and hospitals. The Family International have also given help to those with drug addictions as well as assisted in relief on a humanitarian level. All through the years The Family International have brought the Christian message of salvation to every strata of society through workshops, evangelism, Bible studies and seminars as well as the educational material, books, magazines and audio material.
