The actual implant is a silicone shell that is filled with a saline solution. The saline solution is a much safer alternative to silicone. Saline implants are safe and instances of ruptures are much rarer.

The size and shape of saline breast implants vary. They can range from 120ccs to 850ccs. The specific size of the implant selected will vary based on the individual patients needs and dimensions. In most instances, the silicone cases are empty and the saline is added on a made to order basis. However, there are pre-filled saline implants available as well. Utilizing the pre-filled saline implant is not as popular as the other method although it is not necessarily a problematic procedure. Probably the most unique aspect of saline breast implants has been the development of expandable breast implants. As the name implies, expandable implants can be increased in size at a later session if the recipient wishes to modify the size and shape of the breasts. In the past, such modifications were not possible. Today, the procedure is common and it is employed with few complications.

Saline implants are popular for a reason. People feel more confident with these implants than traditional silicone. Additionally, the benefits of durability and flexibility add to this confidence.
