Celebrations are the integral part of Indian culture. The tradition of celebrations is being followed here since the Vedic age. In India almost everything is celebrated whether it is birth or death, marriage or anniversary, harvest or sowing. Each and every festival is celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm in every nook and corner of this incredible land. Though the celebration and festival name varies from region to region yet genesis behind celebrations remains the same. Among all the Indian celebrations festivals of Rajasthan have their own charm and glamor. This state has an unending cycle of fairs and festivals throughout the year. Some of the well known festivals of this region are:
Mewar Festival, Udaipur

Time: March April
It is an annual festival which is celebrated in the month of March or April in order to welcome the spring season. The city of Lakes Udaipur is the center stage of this celebration. The vibrant and eclectic celebration of this festival attracts scores of tourists from several parts of the globe. During the festival the statue of Isar and Gangaur are rotated in a procession that passes through different parts of the city. This festival is dedicated to womenfolk who adorn and decorate the idol in order to get married bliss. Finally this procession terminates at the Gangaur Ghat of Lake Pichhola where the idols are finally worshiped. Traditional dance, folklores, music concerts, fairs, handicrafts display, delectable foods and colorful fireworks are the major attractions of this celebration.

This is among the well known fairs and festivals of Rajasthan which provides the real glimpses and taste of Rajasthani culture.
 
Teej Festival, Jaipur:

Time: July - August
It is among the most famous festivals of India which is celebrated by the maidens and married women. In this festival women worship Goddess Parvati so that they can get conjugal bliss and marital happiness. Although this festival is celebrated throughout India yet two days colorful Teej procession of Jaipur steals the show. It is among the popular festivals of this place which is also referred as the festival of swings. During the celebration womenfolk dressed in green clothes sing folk songs and hang swings from trees so that they can get heavenly blessings. During two day procession the Teej idols are decorated with beautiful ornaments and colorful dresses.

At this time Jaipur markets become the center of attraction due to its beautiful decorations in various colors.
Urs Ajmer Sharif, Ajmer:

Time: According to Lunar Calendar
This is the renowned fair of Rajasthan which is celebrated in the seventh month of Islamic calendar. Though it is one of the biggest Muslim fairs in India but people from all religions, sects and casts congregate at the shrine of Sufi Saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti and offer their prayers. This fair is continued for six days which is best known for its Sufi style celebrations. The main attraction of this fair is Qawwalis which are performed by professional singers called qawwals in which Saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti is praised.
