About Breast Augmentation Surgery: An Overview For Potential Patients

Many young women choose to have breast enlargement surgery in order to enhance their appearance. Some have breasts that are not evenly matched, some have slackness in their breasts after losing weight or after a pregnancy, and others simply want to have larger breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is also called breast implant surgery because it is done by inserting saline or silicone implants into the body. The plastic surgeon for breast enlargement will start by making an incision. This cut will be just under the areola, in the armpit, or under the breast, in the crease.

At this point, there are two main choices. The surgeon for breast enlargement may insert the silicone or saline implant just under the breast, or he may put the implant further inside, under the chest muscle. There is some evidence that it is easier to get mammograms with breast implants when the implant is under the chest muscle.

The implants are then manipulated until they are the right shape and in the right place. Then, the incision is stitched up, bandaged, and wrapped. The breast implant surgery takes about 2 hours and does not require an overnight stay unless a complication arises.

After breast augmentation surgery, the breasts will be sore for awhile, and the nipples may have a burning sensation. The breast enlargement surgery scars should be light after a short time. Furthermore, the scars should be placed in discrete locations where they will not likely be noticed.

Breast augmentation surgery carries some risks, and since it is usually an optional procedure, it can be controversial for some people. There is a chance that a breast implant patient will acquire capsular contracture, in which the breast tissue hardens around the implant. There is the possibility of a ruptured implant as well, although this is very rare and is not dangerous in any case. Nerve damage is also possible.
