Aamir Khans Peepli Live A Magnum Opus

By:

The perfectionist is back in action. Aamir Khan hits back to Bollywood with Peepli Live. After the colossal success of 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan is back with yet another satirical movie.

Peepli Live is a fresh concept introduced in Bollywood. The movie is a satire on the farmers' suicides and subsequent media and political response.

The plot goes like this, on the eve of national elections in the Indian village of Peepli, two poor farmers, Natha and Budhia, face losing their land over an unpaid government loan. Desperate, they seek help from an apathetic local politician, who suggests they commit suicide to benefit from a government program that aids the families of indebted deceased farmers. When a journalist overhears Budhia urge Natha to "do what needs to be done" for the sake of their families, a media frenzy ignites around whether or not Natha will commit suicide.

This movie will see the film stars of Naya Theatre company member Omkar Das Manikpuri as well as Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Malaika Shenoy. Peepli Live is produced by Aamir Khan. The movie will be directed and written by Anusha Rizvi in her first directorial venture.

Peepli Live is slated to release on August 13, has been well-received on the festival circuit, including at Berlin and Sundance in the United States, where it was nominated for a grand jury prize. It is the first ever Bollywood movie to achieve this feat. The movie is shot all over Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi.

Yet again Aamir Khan backs on an unconventional subject after 3 Idiots. This one diverts from the moth-eaten love stories and contemporary cinema and brings something new and fresh to the plate. The film lampoons our society. It wittily talks about the soaring gap between the urban and the rural India. The hilarity in the film starts when a farmer (Rajpal) decides to commit suicide in order to get government compensation to feed his family. The movie with its funny script focuses on the biggest problem of our society. Though farmer suicide is a small part of the film from where the satire on the society starts, it cannot be forgotten that it is one of the biggest loop holes in our system.

The director Anusha Rizvi was a journalist who brought this idea to Aamir Khan. The film has already been screened in the Berlin ale Special section - part of the official selection of the Berlin festival. The movie got a tremendous response and the people from all over really appreciated the movie. There is no doubt that 2010 is seeing a flare-up of celluloid talent and Rizvi's film is a testimony of that. It is also momentous that a Bollywood actor would produce a small budget arthouse film without stars and dances.

Hopefully, Peepli Live will see the rise of a new era in Bollywood as we can alays count on Aamir Khan and his modus operandi. The dialogue promo of the movie is doing great; lets hope the movie will give Bollywood a good hike and Aamir Khan a momentum of a lifetime.
