A Viable Alternative Energy Source.

By:

A good alternative energy source is solar panels; they are economical and also good for the environment. And in many places utilities companies are required to buy and extra power that you may put back into the grid. And staying connected to the grid also means that you wont have to have an costly battery system to store energy. On cloudy days or at night time you can draw your power from the grid. This can lower your power bill because at times when you are producing more power than you use yourself the power put back into the grid will be subtracted from your total bill.

When solar panels are mounted they are usually installed at an angle to receive more energy from the sun. Not only is this a good method to capture more of the suns energy, it is also a good way to reduce the maintenance needed to keep the panels effective. While very little maintenance is required, dust and dirt can accumulate on the panels and reduce the amount of light that actually reaches the panels. So while a panel that is mounted flat would require periodic cleaning, a panel mounted at an angle will be washed off every time it rains, eliminating the need for manual cleaning.

Todays solar panels are much more efficient than panels from only a few years ago. Most solar panels using modern technology average about 12% efficiency. There are two basic forms of solar energy that can be utilized today. One is thermal solar; this method uses the suns power to heat a fluid or water to drive turbines to create electricity. And the other is called photovoltaic in which the suns energy is turned directly into electric power with no moving parts needed. In most cases the modules are arranged in multiples to provide enough power for a house hold.
