A Very Important Keyword Research Tip

Many internet marketers don't realize how important keyword research is to being successful on the internet. In my personal experience, the keywords you select could be the difference between earning money this week or earning it in 6 months from now. I've had sites that indexed in the top 10 at Google, while I've had others that have yet to make it to the top 10 over a period of 6 months. I'm not saying that hard keywords aren't good to go after, but you have to weigh the value of things. The less work you have to put into make cash, I think the better. I thought I could share a few pieces of my keyword research guide.

Many gurus teach new people to take a potential keyword to Google and search it with quotes around it. If it has less than 30,000 (or some similar number) it is a good keyword. Giving exact numbers and guidelines for new people is a good thing, but this is really quite useless. The competition you have for every single keyword is 10, which represents the 10 sites that a search engine lists on the front page for keyword. It doesn't matter if 29,990 other sites are competing for the same keyword because there is no victory until you get into the top 10.

My keyword research tip for you to is to search a potential keyword in Google without using quotes. You should look at the top 10 and try to identify at least one weak site that you could dethrone. If you position 5 is weak, than you know 6-10 are weaker. With experience you'll learn to identify weak sites like aggregators, but other sites like article directories can be beat with very little work on your own site.
