A Tummy Tuck And A C-section At The Same Time

By:

Most doctors frown on it, yet many women are seeking to have tummy tucks performed at the same time or immediately following their C-section. Most doctors won't perform a C-section more than a week prior to the baby's due date. Performing a tummy tuck around this time could harm the baby, say doctors.

Performing these two procedures at the same time increases risk and leaves the patient open to a range of complications. It also brings into play an increased chance for infection. The higher level for chance of infection is because the tummy tuck and C-section bring into play different body fluids and open up different body cavities where cross contamination of fluids is not a good thing to have happen.

Many doctors simply won't perform a tummy tuck unless the patient is at a stable weight to begin with. Pregnancy weight gain and loss makes this impossible. And, the C-tuck, as it is called would provide unneeded diversion of attention from the baby. The new mother has her hands full already. She has no time to deal with healing herself on such a massive level. Recovery from a tummy tuck can take upwards of six months and that is without giving birth in the process.

C-sections by themselves leave big scars. Anyone who wants a tummy tuck also usually wants to avoid scarring, so the two really don't go hand in hand. In fact, having a C-tuck would probably result in much larger scars than if the two procedures were done separately, or after the woman gives birth naturally foregoing the C-section altogether.

Most doctors recommend waiting at least six months after giving birth before having a tummy tuck. Many doctors tell us that women should wait until after they are completely done giving birth and have had their last child, before deciding to have a tummy tuck. Otherwise, each successive birth will undo the tummy tuck, mandating that the repairs be done again. If you have unlimited income, then that's okay. However it is not wise, if you live on a budget like most of us.

Prior to committing to any surgery it is wise to explore and to investigate all of the doctors in your city, as well as the surrounding cities. Sometimes an excellent candidate to do the operation can be found in the next urban area for less money.

Make sure you and the doctor are on the same page about pre-op, surgical procedures and post-op practices and recovery. Once you are satisfied, then that is the time to go ahead and to schedule the procedure.
