A Trip To California Has To Includes Oranges

By:

We live in the Rocky Mountains, we have snow, ice and very long, cold winters. We were able to take the kids to California and take the kids to Lego Land and Knott's Berry Farm for their birthdays. We have three boys who all have February birthday's and to take care of all the festivities at once we took off for the warmth and sun to spend a few days.

As soon as we hit the Pear Blossom Highway we noticed a change in warmth and greenery. To see blades of green grass and blue skies, vegetation with birds of paradise, azaleas, bougainvillea, rosemary, grasses, geraniums, and so many other amazing plant specimens was a treat of mammoth proportions.

To live in an area where that can be seen for months at a time is dead plants, dead grass, dirty snow and grey skies, the green was almost overwhelming. I forget how beautiful the world can be in winter. I love spring with it's renewal of all things green and luscious. Hope is renewed in every little tulip bulb that shows its little green tip in March.

Every crocus and daffodil gives birth to hope that we survived the winter and spring is on its way. I love the spring, I love summer, I love fall as long as there are lovely days, but I do not love winter, not any of it. I don't mind snow the week of Christmas, but other than that, I am not a fan.

So, on this lovely trip to California we were able to see my two favorite outdoor colors, green and blue along with all the variety of colors of flowers. But as I mentioned along with all the beauties of the ocean, the waves and sand and roar, I love the citrus trees, especially the orange trees.

Nothing can compare with fresh oranges, not the awful fruit you buy in the stores that were picked so green, not the orange juice you buy in cartons and especially not orange soda in a can! No, oranges have to be picked orange, brought directly into the house and peeled, juiced or cut up and eaten fresh. California has its beauty, it has its amusement parks and its people, beaches and sun but oh how I love the oranges.
