A Traveler's Guide To Berlin

By:

The city offers the best in entertainment, tourism, commerce and education - far beyond what it used to be during the Berlin wall era.

Berlin is without a doubt rich in history. It has experienced several ups and downs throughout the year, creating the magnetic character modern Berlin has today. The city has experienced its own share of political turmoil but is considered to have one of the most famous symbols of freedom from dictatorship through the Berlin Wall.

Today, tourists flock to the city not just for its rich history and culture but also because of the modernity that it offers. The city is where age-old historic structures rub elbows with towering skyscrapers - where the old perfectly blends in with the new.

It is always a good time to visit Berlin no matter what day of the year. This is because the climate is usually moderate and comfortable, no matter what the season. Summers are comfortably warm and the best time of the year usually comes during the spring months where cool breeze mixes perfectly with warm weather. Autumn seasons bring in the majestic colors of golden yellow and brown. The only off-season for travel is during the winter months where cold winds come blowing from the Russian side.

Berlin is also a city of festivals where people always find something to celebrate at every time of the year. Festivals range from wild street parties, concerts, trade shows and even sports events. But beware, festivals, especially the larger ones, can draw in quite a crowd and if you are looking for some peace and quiet in the city, then its best that you stay away during these events. Still, festivities in Berlin are a must-experience for any traveler.

Berlin is the largest city in Germany but this is something that tourists do not have to worry about because the city has an efficient transportation system that you can use for going around. The city's transportation system is made out of buses, trains, trams and ferries. Public transportation is very affordable even for the budget-limited traveler so you can go ahead and explore the rest of the city without bleeding your pockets dry.

One of the reasons why so many tourists flock to the city is because it is considered to be the top three convention cities in the world. International conventions and events contribute a large portion of the city's ever-increasing tourism industry. In 2009, it was estimated that the city received 135 million visitors daily.

Because of the number of tourists coming in to the city every year, the area is equally known for hosting a wide variety of accommodations - from the more expensive top class hotels to the affordable budget accommodations for travelers. It is estimated that the city has over 18.9 million hotels scattered all over the city. One of the most popular accommodations in the area is the convenient vacation apartments that tourists can rent for the duration of their stay.
