Etymology

A fable is behind the name Ha Long Bay. When the Vietnamese were fighting against Chinese invaders, dragons descended from heaven to help them. These dragons began spitting out jewels and jade that turned into the islands to form a great wall against the invaders. Chinese defeated and later the place became the country of Vietnam. Dragons were droved by the charm of the place, so they decided to live there. The place was named Ha Long, where the mother dragon descended.
