Once the wax dries out, it is carefully extracted and attached to a base which will be inserted into a cylindrical flask that will be filled with plaster. The flask is then heated until the wax vaporizes, hence the name, Lost Wax Casting. The space left over in the plaster by the vaporized wax now acts as the template for future Rembrandt Charms. It is then filled with a melted precious metal of choice: gold, silver, or even platinum. Once hard, the plaster gets washed away, exposing the charm. The process doesnt stop here, though. Hours of detailing and polishing, all done by hand, follow. Depending on the design, additional work may still be needed, like stone setting, or soldering of other pieces to make Rembrandt Charms with moveable parts or to give the charm a 3-dimensional perspective. It then passes through a strict quality control check by the artist who handcrafted the piece. Then, and only then can these masterpieces be called Rembrandt Charms. But thats only the first part of a two-step process. The next step is where the customer gets involved: choosing the bracelet. Its important to choose a bracelet that will go well with the charm. Typically, jewelers advise going for the same type of gold and the same karat to achieve uniformity in how the charm bracelet looks. Of course, this last step is entirely up to the customer, from the choice of metal, to the length of the bracelet. The Rembrandt Charms are then attached to the bracelet, leaving a product thats as timeless as it is valuable.
