Also known as Che Kung Miu, Che Kung Temple is a famous place of worship dedicated to the ancient Chinese General Che Kung of the Song Dynasty. This impressive shrine which is considered a great place to worship and explore, dates back to more than 400 years.
Even today locals gather at the temple each year on the day of his birth to pay tribute and to worship him. It is said that the inhabitants of the Sha Tin District were seriously affected by a vicious disease some three hundred years ago. Even during that time General Che Kung was immensely admired and respected for the great contributions made by him to the nation. In order to release locals from the plague people began to carry tablets with the name of the general engraved. They carried these tablets right around the locality hoping that the disease will fade away with the power of Che Kung. Eventually the wide spread disease was cast away and this further strengthened the belief they had towards Che Kung. As a result the Che Kung Temple, Hong Kong was constructed.
Historical records reveal that Che Kung Temple was one of the most famous and most visited temples in the entire Sha Tin District. Today it remains so with large numbers of travellers from across the world visiting this sacred temple in Hong Kong.
