A Staycation Spa Day

By:

If you're dying for a vacation, but just don't have the necessary funds, you're not alone. People all over the United States have had to resort to staying at home this year, rather than traveling cross country for their annual vacation. Plus, with gas prices on the rise again, there is more than one deterrent keeping you away from the beach this year. It's hard to believe, but you don't have to leave the house to relax and unwind, like you would at your annual vacation. Instead, invite a group of your girlfriends over and get ready to take that much needed break from reality.

You don't have to pay top notch prices to receive the best in relaxation, instead get ready to turn your living room or backyard into a spa. No, it doesn't have to be cheesy; in fact it can be just as nice as your favorite spa lounge. If it's nice out, plan on having your spa on your back patio, otherwise, you can clear out your living room. Either way, try to make your space more welcoming by decorating with relaxing touches, such as fresh flowers and candles. Make the space seem as simple as possible, and remove all distractions, so both you and your guests can feel free to lay back and relax. Once you have created a "serene-like" space, you'll need to start gathering the equipment you need. Relax, this doesn't require any heavy lifting.

• Spa concoctions. You can find a wide array of facial recipes and mani/pedi ideas just by surfing the web. Don't be afraid to mix up a few facial concoctions, i.e. one for dry skin, one for oily skin, etc. You can purchase a few colorful flat buckets and fill them with hot water, fresh flowers and aromatherapy liquids for a pleasantly pleasing feet surprise.

• Relax with class. You can have a friend or local yoga teacher instruct your girls on the journey to inner peace. If you don't know anyone, just pop in a video and you'll be able to get your breathe in and out's conquered in no time.

• Massage artists. If you want to have a massage therapist and/or manicure and pedicure genius come to your house then go right ahead. If this seems a little too pricey, then maybe ask your adult children to help you out for the day, or have your friends swap between giving and getting a manicure.

• Take in the sounds. The backdrop to your spa staycation should be some relaxing tunes. Make sure to play music that isn't too loud, but allows your guests to softly tune out the outside world. Sounds of waterfalls are always a surefire way to relax.

• Goodie bag. Yes, you may have gotten the idea from your daughter's fifth birthday party, but this is much different. Fill your "goodie bags" with fragranced eye pillows, bath salts and some miniature candles. Hey, why not go crazy and add a personalized mini wine bottle favor? You don't have to go over the edge to make an impression.

It's important to keep in mind that you don't have to leave the house to reap the benefits of a vacation. Creating your own spa will help keep you and your girlfriends in tip-top shape. When you feel like you need a break from reality, turn to this serene spa idea.
