A Sneak Peak On Chillers

By:

Machines that remove heat from liquid through absorption refrigeration cycle or vapour-compression are called as chillers which circulate liquid from heat exchanger to cool air. Chillers are required in industry for controlling cooling of products, mechanism and factory machinery, for laboratory equipments, in injection and blowing of moulds in plastic industry, pharmaceutical formulations, food and beverages industry, vacuum systems, power generation stations, health care industries and many other industries.

Areas of use by chillers:

1.It provides total terminal maintenance for automatic gates, vacuum control system - trucks and marine, HVAC boilers, and many more.
2.It includes services to all types of refrigeration and HVAC system such as fluid chillers, cooling towers, heat transfer system, vapour compressors and many more.
3.Chillers are used in automatic gates, pumps compressor, vapour control system and many more along with its initial use of providing refrigeration and air conditioning.
4.They reduce the chance of breakdown and hence give long term reliability,
5.They have good record of efficiency and minimize energy usage,
6.They can be easily repaired with in the time frame.

Working of Industrial chillers:

*The chillers used in industries are closed-loop systems including chiller unit, condenser, recirculating pump, no-flow shutdown, expansion valve, internal cold watertank and temperature control.
*Closed-loop industrial chillers continuously recirculate clean water at constant temperature and pressure.
*The internal tank maintains temparatue and cold water.
*The water flows from the chiller to point of use and again recirculates.
*The most recent advancement is the use of water cooling than air cooling. Water is cooled by a cooling tower instead of condenser cooling the hot refrigerant with ambient air.
*It is used in central vacuum systems, distillation, drying systems, solvent recovery, and soil remediation.
*It has good liquid handling capability since its pumps handle high volumes of vapours, condensable and liquids without any negative consequences in mechanical reliability.
*Unlike other vacuum pumps its discharge air is free of oils, carbons or plastic particles.
*Its design allows utilization of electric motors eliminates alignment procedures and reduces cost.

Chiller repairs and maintenance:

*The use of each component of the chiller and its location should be known to provide quick repairs and efficient maintenance.
*The system should be given enough time to power down so that the hot parts become cool and the cool parts become warm; for ease of handling.
*One of the most common problems is the dust buildup.
*Dust buildup on coils makes energy transfer properties less efficient, this causes other parts to work harder causing more damage to the chiller.
*Larger HVAC systems have primary and secondary drain pipes which have the possibility of rusting. To avoid it, an overflow pan is installed to the secondary pipe; obstructing the main drain pipe.
*Leakage from chillers and high pitches squealing should is due to system failure or over- heating.
*Damaged doors should be repaired or replaced.
Chillers are an essential part ad their maintenance requires good handling and proper servicing.
