A Simple Conversation About Web Traffic Part 1

By: Vince Collaso

Don is an accomplished internet marketer, with over 3 years of success. June is a newbie craving success.

Don: Hello, ma'am! How may I help you today?

June: I want success on the internet. I just don't know how to start or how to get it!

Don: Don't you fret, madam! Help is on the way! I cer-

June: DON'T call me madam! It makes me sound old!

Don: Sorry. What is your name, then?

June: June.

Don: Ok, June. I can certainly help you out in this matter. Have a pen and paper ready-

June: I have them ready. Just tell me what I need to know.

Don: (to himself) June is in a hurry! She's sooo impatient!

Don: The first thing is to know what you like to do.

June: What does that have to do with success online?

Don: Just tell me. What are your hobbies?

June: OK, I like karate. I'm a black belt. I like cooking. I'm in culinary school. I like fine wines. That's all I can tell you, I'm afraid.

Don: Plenty, June. For you, I suggest a blog by you about any of these subjects.

June: What's a blog?

Don: A blog is a simple online diary written by you about a specific topic or topics. You can generate traffic by writing about your knowledge and experiences in karate, for example.....

June: Ok, I get it. How often should I write though?

Don: Write as often as you like, but since you're starting, write once a day or every other day.

June: How do I get a blog? How do I write in it? And, how do I write if I don't have anything in particular to write that day. And what's traffic?

Don: (laughing) June, slow down. Let me answer these questions first.... Now, you can get a free blog at a variety of places. Use your search engine and you'll find them. Write a 300 - 500 word article based on past experiences as well as tips that you can offer to the reader. Give them plenty of value so that they can see you as an authority on the subject. You got it?

June: Let's see.... Articles, 500 words, value. Got it!

Don: Good. Now, what you're going to do is submit these articles to article directories as well as post them on your blog. You can fi-

June: Find them on my search engines, right?

Don: Yes. Don't interrupt me again.

June: Sorry.(laughs)

Don: (not laughing) Submit to at least, say 8 - 10 of these directories. Don't forget to include woth each of these submissions the 4 - 5 line bio box. Definitely include the web location, or url of your blog in this box.

June: What else do I put in the box?

Don: A short explanation of your connection to the article's subject will be fine. People will then get familiar with you. You see, YOU'RE the reason people will visit your blog, not just the article. The rich, informative stuff you've packed into the article is for the search engines, especially big G, Google.

June: What do the search engines want with the articles? Why rich and informative?

Don: The content is seen by the search engines' spiders, which are programs that are sent out by the search engines across the internet to gather new information. They look at websites and rank them according to different things, such as links, content and properly used keywords. That will in turn give you more web site traffic....

June: What are links? What are keywords? How can I use them properly? You never DID explain the reasons for rich and informative! Nor did you explain what on earth is traffic!!

Don: Oh, dear....

Will Don explain everything to June, or will she have to find out for herself how to succeed? Or will Don's head explode from the overload? Does June, with all her impatience, truly deserve to get this valuable information? Will Don see this? Will you? Return for Part 2 of this Conversation and find out!
