A Secret To Reducing Heat Loss In Your Swimming Pool

By:

As a pool owner/ operator, you know that a heated pool is much preferable for users/ patrons. Swimming or playing in a cold pool isn't fun and won't do anything positive for your facility's image. So you heat your pool. And that's expensive- no way around it.

But, once heated, there ARE things you can do to reduce heat loss from water. Evaporation is the single greatest water heat loss. Reduce evaporation, and you save money on water heating. (Not to mention less evaporation means much fewer problems in OTHER aspects of maintaining a pool, such as equipment corrosion, room air quality, damage to wood products (chairs, etc.), damage to structural elements such as walls, and so on.

Far and away, the most common method of reducing heat loss is a solar pool cover. These are blankets that you physically put on at night, and remove during operating hours the reduce heat loss via evaporation. They are effective, but also expensive to buy, bulky to store, plus fairly labor intensive.

A new and innovative way to reduce this heat loss is through liquid pool covers. These are solutions added to your pool's water that float on the water surface, creating a barrier that greatly helps to slow down evaporation. Your major heat loss is via evaporation.

They are biodegradable, non-toxic, neutral pH product that has been in use in pools around the world for over 20 years. They work during operating hours as well as when your pool is closed. (Most effective when waster is calm, such as times when the pool is closed or there are no or few bathers, as might happen in hotel pools.)

The way it works is that you add this chemical easily to your pool water, usually once a day. This can be done during normal routine daily water testing. These products can be added manually, or via automatic metering systems. They work by spreading single layer of molecule over the water surface. It disperses itself, and does not affect any equipment. It has no effect on your pool chemical balances or chemical usage. It functions perfectly with your circulation system. Swimmers are not aware of it- it causes no problems for them. There has never been a complaint of these products in over 20 years. They are eco-friendly and invisible.

Liquid pool covers can be used for large or small pools, public or residential.

One additional, potentially HUGE benefit of using a liquid pool cover is liability. A solar pool blanket is an entrapment hazard (people becoming trapped underneath). More and more states are making their use illegal. We all know that prudent and intelligent people will not be foolish enough to get trapped under a solar blanket. But many people are foolish or imprudent (or intoxicated) and do stupid things.

And we all know that courts and juries today most often rule against the pool owner. Even if he/she did everything they were supposed to, followed manufacturer's instructions, posted signs, and so on. You won't be sued in this way if you use a liquid pool cover- entrapment can't happen.

So, seriously think about looking into liquid pool covers. Your next step is to research it, and/or talk with a distributor.
