By:

San Francisco is one of the most visited cities in the country. With a plethora of things to do, see, visit, climb, and eat, it never gets old. It was first inhabitant almost 5,000 years ago as evidence of human habitation stems c back to 3000 BC. As far as modern man is concerned, a Spanish exploration party, led by Don Gaspar de Portola arrived in modern day San Francisco on November 2, 1776.

After independence from Spain, the bay area became part of Mexico. William Richardson, an Englishman first homesteaded in the area in 1835. Commodore John D. Sloat claimed California for the United States on July 7, 1846 and one year later on the anniversary date, the name was forever changed.

The Gold Rush brought a flood of hopefuls to the area. The rumors of gold were so abundant that sailors literally ran off their boats upon docking, leaving behind a forest of vessels in the harbor. Unfortunately, the dream didn't pan out for most.

While people no longer flock to this place for gold, they do flock to the city in hopes of a great vacation. With Alcatraz Island, Pier 39, Lombardo Street, Little Italy, China Town, the Wax Museum, clam chowder, sour dough bread, trolley cars, seals and endless people watching, the town has plenty to offer.

This beautiful place is also world famous for its food. Beyond clam chowder and sour dough bread, it also hails some of the nations finest restaurants. A San Francisco Restaurant with a view of the bay is hard to parallel anywhere.

Start your feast off with minutina salad, consisting of warm smoked pork belly vinaigrette and egg, or wood oven roasted baby artichokes and Serrano ham, how about a heart of palm salad with Dungeness crab? Dinner is calling and lobster, pheasant, scallops or short ribs are on the menu. New York strips, free range veal, or a rib eye you can eat with a fork will hit the spot, especially after a day of walking all over town.

It is one of the world's destination spots for a reason. With plenty to see, much to do, history worth looking into, food to sample, hills to climb, stores to conquer, Piers to visit, seals to feed and people to watch, you will never grow tired of your trip to the world famous San Francisco.
