A Review Of The Brilliant Optimus Black Handset From Lg

LG have established a reputation for producing stylish and eye catching smartphone. The release of the new Optimus Black sees this taken to a new level, with the model boasting perhaps the most stylish chassis to date, and also one of the thinnest.

It seems only right to start by looking at the design of this model. The overall depth of the handset measures in at just 9.2mm, meaning that when viewed from the side, the phone nearly vanishes. It is indeed 0.1mm slimmer than the iPhone 4 which previously held bragging rights as the thinest model available. Along with this slimline profile the phone also weighs in at an incredible 109 grammes, which is on the verge of the phone feeling almost too light. The width of the phone is 121mm and the width 62.5mm which are respectable enough figures, especially considering the phone manages to pack a 4" display within its tiny frame. The now familiar set of four android keys are situated beneath the screen, with a range of buttons and ports around the perimeter of the phone including volume controls as well as the micro USB port and headphone socket. Another area where the Optimus Black has leapfrogged the pack is with regards to the secondary, front facing camera. On this model it boasts a massive 2 mega pixel resolution. You have to move up to a tablet device such as the Blackberry Playbook to better this specification. The front facing camera is ideal for self portraits or conducting video calls, however the main snapper is on the rear of the device and this offers and even better resolution of 5 million pixels with geo-tagging facilities.

Video capture is also possible on the Optimus Black from LG, and in keeping with many modern smartphones, this offers a high quality of 720P High Definition capture, the same quality that is found on the excellent HTC Desire HD. Storage wise the unit sports a micro SD card slot allowing you to add capacity up to 32GB. The Optimus Black matches its stunning looks with outstanding performance thanks to a high powered processor that ensures all manner of actions on the phone are done at lightning speed. This encompasses all aspects of the phone, from loading applications to browsing web pages. On the subject of online usage, the Optimus Black benefits from its inclusion of Wireless LAN. These allows for a super fast online connection, with all three current speeds of WiFi all supported. Should you be away from one of your networks, the unit supports 3G, EDGE and GPRS, meaning you can stay connected regardless of your location.

The Optimus Black is arguably the nicest looking phone currently available, backed up by a great Android 2.2 operating system and some really high end specification.
