A Reusable Bag Goes A Long Way

Most of us are not opposed to using reusable bags over the plastic store bags that clog up the environment. But it is not always easy to remember to bring your sacks to the grocery store, most of us buy these bags at the store, fill them with groceries, unpack the foodstuff at home and then put the bags in the closet, to be quickly forgotten about. Even those of us who remember to put the bags in the trunk of the car may not remember they are there upon the next trip to the store. We have all probably done it at least once, returned to the store without our reusable bag, being forced to either buy new ones or to use the store's plastic sacks.

Perhaps part of the problem is that the sacks one can obtain from the grocery store are particularly unappealing. To be clear, they tend to be ugly. No one wants to keep them in plain view, and because of this we often forget that we even have them. Is the answer to the problem becoming plain? In order to remember that we have a reusable sack at our disposal, we should invest in ones that we are proud to say we own, sacks that we are not ashamed to be seen carrying.

There is a wide selection of colors so that if you need a neon green bag to remind you that it exists, you should have no trouble finding one.

If you still cannot remember that you have environmentally- friendly sacks waiting for you in the trunk of your car, perhaps it is a good idea to write yourself a sticky note and place it on the dashboard. You can even find a green or nature-inspired steering wheel wrap to casually remind you at all times that there are things you can be doing to make the earth a better place, as a sort of forget-me-not.

A reusable sack should be washed once in a while, so remember to take your collection out of the trunk once in a while to give them the once over. Cotton shopping sacks can be thrown in the wash with the rest of your laundry, but it may be better to wash a reusable sack made from plastic in the sink. The last thing you want is for your good deed to being growing bacteria or even visible molds. A dirty bag should never be allowed to hold your meat or dairy goods. After you have begun remembering these bags more often, you will notice that they work much better than the plastic ones, holding much more and conveniently allowing you to sling them over your shoulder for easy transport.
