A Radiology Technician Performs X-rays And More

By:

People can tell you that they are carpenters, and you still may not know what they do for a living. That is because there are several different types of carpenters. There are cabinet builders, and form carpenters, and roofing carpenters. If you are not told which kind of carpentry work the person does, then you are not sure of what they build.

The same thing is true of radiology technicians. If they do not elaborate on their job you will not know what they do.

X-Rays

Of course when you hear the term radiology technician, you may think of broken bones and x-rays. You may even think about chest x-rays because most people have at least one chest x-ray in their lifetime. You more than likely do not think about the many other types of diagnostic equipment that is run by people with this job title, such as:

*Computed tomography equipment
*Sonograph equipment
*Magnetic resonance imaging equipment
*Radiation therapy equipment
*Bone density equipment
*Radiation treatment equipment
*Mammography equipment

This job title covers many different job descriptions. The people that do the work all have a few things in common though.

Compassion/Understanding/Caring

You cannot work in a medical profession if you are not a compassionate individual. People who work in these professions deal every day with other people that are at their very worst. Their clients are sick, they are usually cranky, and they just do not want someone messing with them at all. It takes a person who can relate to what the other person is dealing with in order to remain cheerful and positive all day.

The radiology technician is on their feet for long periods of the day, often bent in positions that are unnatural or lifting patients to help them get into a position where they can complete the required test. At the end of the day when the last patient walks in the door, the technician has to be as cheerful, and upbeat, and positive as they were when the first patient came through the door that morning. The technician cannot let the frustrations of the day affect the way they treat the patient, because the patient is suffering enough already. They do not need someone taking their troubles out on them. The patient also will not understand why the technician is being short tempered, so the patient will leave the testing area feeling worse than when they arrived.
