A Proven Strategy For Failing Business Coaches

By:

Being a successful business coach is challenging. Business coaching is a growing industry with new coaches entering the marketplace each day. The competition is stiff and each business coach must build a coaching business that is focused, structured, and built on a strong foundation. What exactly is a strong foundation?

Clear focus and target market:
A business coach with a clear target market is going to become more successful faster, than the coach that serves everyone and anyone. The target can be a broad market but it should still have a focus.

Structure and Curriculum:
A business with a structured process, program and curriculum gives the coach more substance for selling their services. It gives the coach the ability to tell prospects-- "we use a proven process for success." Others have used this system and created good results." In addition, to a curriculum or process giving you more sell-ability, it also provides more structure to the coach's business itself. It provides a foundation for growing the business, and specific ways to run the business.

The curriculum can be self developed or a curriculum that is purchased from another coach or company. Purchasing a program can save a great deal of time, money and personal resources, and get your business on track faster. When evaluating different curricula you should:
Be sure that the program resonates with you and how you want to work with clients.
Is comprehensive
Provides resources to clients
Saves you time and money
Increases your credibility
Gives you the tools that you need to implement the program
Has a track record
Presents you professionally and elevates you as a facilitator or coach of the program

Some coaches hesitate to use programs developed by other people, but it can save you tremendous time and money. When you decide to develop your own program you have to realize that it takes a great amount of time, research, money and resource. It can slow your ability to serve clients well and distract you from getting your business running. Program I have developed have taken over two years from start to finish. Clients want the benefits of the program and to know that you know the content of the program. They are not as concerned about "who" wrote the program.

Think about it, we have all gone to school, earned degrees, and most often we did not have the author of the test book teaching the class. We had an expert in the field of study, that knew the content and the book, but did not personally write the book. It is the same in coaching. You choose a good curriculum to use with your clients and they will be grateful.

A good curriculum for your clients can aid in your ability to charge higher rates, get better results for your clients and ultimately grow your business faster and bigger. When you are just getting started a solid curriculum or program can help your business development.
