Everyone thinks about safety when they are getting on a flight. Airlines are taking it very seriously, everything from the security checks to the training for the pilots is part of the commitment. But one of the bad things is the pilots, like truckers, are requested to work a long number of hours back to back which means a number of them are flying planes with not very much rest time.

Due to this issue the FAA has created a new regulation to make sure the pilots get the amount of rest they need between their flights so they are at their best while they are flying. Currently the regulation is to be implemented in a few months, it adds an hour to the rest time between work days so it must be a minimum of nine hours. Also the time spent flying will be limited to no more than thirteen hours during a twenty four hour time.

There are plans to put some additional restrictions in place by the FAA, some about the flight time for a pilot based on the changes in the time zones, the time of day and some other issues that can impact the ability of a pilot to do an effective job of flying. These are all limits due to helping make sure that there is sufficient rest time before they go up into the air and pilot a commercial airliner.

And while this proposal does limit the flight time of pilots in many different areas the newest FAA regulations also allow pilots to fly a little more with a change from being able to fly 100 hours every 30 days to being allowed to fly 100 hours per every 28 days. In addition, pilots who begin to fly between 7 am and 1 pm will be allowed to fly as many as 10 hours consecutively which is up from the 8 hours previously allowed.

The changes may appear to not be that much of a change, and some have a level of concern that the pilots will only get nine hours off in a row before having to fly again all day. It does appear since a person should really have eight hours of sleep each night that only nine hours won't be quite enough to be able to get a sufficient amount of rest and then travel again. But only by doing it for a while will see if it's enough to satisfy the pilots as enough rest for them.
