A Mother Of 10 Achieves All She Aspired For

By:

Back in the year 1964, a woman, 40 years of age applied for admission to the local university's college of literature, science and the arts in raggedy farm clothes.

This woman who was convent educated and just came from a chicken ranch expressed her intention to become a medical doctor. Prior to approving her application, the admissions head sent her to the psychologist for evaluation for he was extremely disbelieving.

An accolade which unlikely to be matched has been achieved by this lady this spring, after ten fruitful years. They further made it known that right within that long period of 10 years, she had been able to achieve all her premed and medical school requirements for a doctorate, while she raised her ten offspring with her husband.

This lady still has a lot ahead of her a year's internship at a local hospital to be followed by an application for her internship at an eastern hospital for three years. A medical career, a full blown one is what she envisions for herself. While they say that 25 years is the average span of a physician's career, I envision myself going more than those years.

Back in 1964 after operating a 145 acre chicken farm for 15 years, her husband decided to change his occupation and suggested to his wife that she also look for a new way to bring in income.

He got a job as a specialist in electronics instrumentation at the local laboratory of research. His wife decided to go to school and also worked on the side at the university's blood processing laboratory.

Everyone asks me this, she shares, but then it's not really a tough time for me being a student while covering the responsibilities of a mother of ten. We did not have a lot so we were very careful with our money. But without me even asking for it, all of them pitched in.

The kids did their part alongside their extremely helpful father. I only handle the dishes since I don't do much cooking. Doing the dishes and cooking would work out for us.

The woman achieved a grade point average of 3 point 2 in her premed program and while she waited for her acceptance in the medical school, she became part of a biology class for graduate students on a part time basis. She says that she thinks medical school was an enriching experience for all of them.

For one thing, the children met a whole new group of people, faculty and medical students, in their home. They met many outstanding persons, and we learned to accept people for themselves, not based on income or status.

One of my daughters was asked once what it was like to have a mother who's always away so much. Her answer was that their mom wasn't just a mom but also a person. Out of the ten kids they have, only two remain.

And these two ones are their youngest boys, a 14 year old who is still in junior high while the other is 17 and has recently graduated from high school. Of the others, her 29 year old son is the oldest who manages a motorcycle sales shop in their area.

On her medical education and achievements, she quickly discloses that the secret is in holding on to who you are as a woman while fulfilling you duties as a doctor. She is the epitome of success, answering her call to duty and personal enrichment.
