A Moms Most Precious Resource

By:

So what do you think a Mom's most precious resource is? Well my belief is that it is time. You have so many moving parts to juggle. As a Mom who works outside of the home as well, I can't quite get my head around having to manage that piece as well. I am challenged to make my 24 hours in each day fit all the things I need to get done. So first of all fair play to you for juggling that additional piece as well.

I strongly believe that having kids teaches you sooo much about managing your time. Think back to B.C. (before children). Oh the thought of it - your time was your own to do with as you please. Then the beautiful bambino arrives and I don't know about you, but a rude awakening followed pretty shortly after that. What just happened to my life? Granted the joy is unsurpassed by anything else in this world. So now you have the same amount of time in the day as B.C. and have things changed? Yes, you now do more in the same time and you have someone else to take care of beside yourself.

My opinion is that this is due to a few reasons;
1.Your pace was probably accelerated. You now have more jobs to do in the same time, so one of the ways to get these done is to move quicker, think quicker.

2.You delegate better. You ask for help when you need it from hubbie or family or friends. Or you hire other people to do some of the stuff you did before e.g. cleaner, gardener, odd job/DIY man

3.You seek out smarter ways to do things i.e. you batch cook dinners, you shop online etc

I use all of these strategies to help me get more out of my time, I regularly take stock of repetitive tasks and question myself on whether this is good use of my time and if not, who can do these for me? A simple example of this - We recently had a few birthdays in our house and instead of spending 2-3 hours travelling to the shops and perusing, I knew what the birthday people wanted and purchased on line. This way I made carefree purchases and I did it from the comfort of my own home. Big bonus is that I then had that time of 2-3 hours saved which I could spend with my kids. Guaranteed this is a good one to employ with Christmas pending. Just think what you could do in the time you save - 2-3 hours is a good chunk of time to plot your undercover escape. Ultimately spending the time on making your undercover escape is going to benefit your family, so go for it.

So have a look at your time and do a quick scan as you go each day. Where do you spend a lot of your time? Where could you save time? With the time you save, what could you get done in this new time that you have?

Have a great productive week!
