The loadings for flooring are worked out using the British Standard load tables that are then compared against the usage for your floor. For storage the load is in bands, light use 4.8Kn/m2 (480kg per square metre) medium use 7.32Kn/m2 (732Kg per square metre) or for heavy usage 9.6Kn/m2 (960Kg per square metre). The flooring would need to be approved by building regulations. Your floor designer will normally take of this on your behalf, but might need to need submit floor slab details and plan of the building showing the fire exits. After you have submitted the details it normally takes about 48 hours for you get your approval. Will my flooring need planning permission? You may need it but only if your car park is shared with other buildings or it belongs to the council. How come some mezzanine floors need a fire rating and some other do not?
