A Major Network Marketing Mistake

So you watched the network marketing company's promotional video - not once, or even twice, but THREE times and you got so excited you couldn't sleep that night. The next day, you signed up as a distributor and waited several days in agony for your training kit to arrive in the mail.

A month later, despite your best efforts, you hadn't made a cent. You hear about using blogging to build your business, so you start a blog. Four months after joining the MLM company, you have still sponsored nobody and are on the edge of quitting.

The reason is not that network marketing doesn't work, but that the company's video emphasized the "unlimited income potential" instead of taking the time to explain that, well, building a business takes time.

If you hang around the industry long enough, you eventually hear the parent company admit that most people who make any decent-sized income in an MLM business take anywhere from two to five years to do it.

In other words, to start a home-based business and think that you'll be able to quit your day job within a year is a huge mistake. While this does happen on rare occasions, the keyword here is "rare".

And when it does happen, it's because the newbie works his or her tail off holding home meetings, talking to people, and tweeting - and doing it just the right so as to be persuasive and convincing without turning people off.

Why is such success unlikely to come your way so quickly? It takes time for most people to learn the skills needed to "do it right." Also, most people you know don't care to start their own business, for whatever reason. And if you're going to build your business solely online, it's going to take much longer than having home meetings because you deal with one person at a time.

Network marketing, for most people who join, is not a path to quick riches. The vast majority of people who develop a three-figure per month residual income check spend thousands of dollars in product before getting there. But if you are willing to persevere and practice patience, your business probably will eventually turn into a handsome extra income stream.
