Diets based on lower carbohydrate consumption helps to faster weight loss in the short term, but over time have the same effect on others, according to U.S. research

Two studies on popular diets restrict the consumption of sugar and processed starches, suggesting that they get results faster than those requiring lower consumption of fat.

The two studies published in the journal of Annals of Internal Medicine show the effects of six volunteer effort two groups, one of which followed a diet with less fat and other diet with fewer carbohydrates.

Both agreed that the group of volunteers who consumed less carbohydrate and enjoyed more benefits-side weight-loss than the other team, but one of the two surveys, which continued to record the results and after six months, adds another factor: when completed 12 months from the commencement of the arbitration effort, both groups lost roughly the same weight.

The investigation of Veterans Affairs Medical Center

The first survey, conducted in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia followed 132 obese adults who shared (with no particular system) in two groups, each of which followed different diets. The first uses up to 30 grams of carbohydrates a day, while the latter allow only 30% of daily calories consumed come from fat.

Initially, the group followed the diet "carbohydrate" had spectacular results, but not for long.
Eventually, after a year, both groups had about the same weight loss: 5-9 pounds for those who cut their consumption of carbohydrates and 3-9 pounds for those who have cut the fat.

According to lead researcher Dr. Linda Stern, the study should not be considered indicative of maintenance should be followed if one wants to lose weight, only in that it should take less calories (regardless of food to choose to consume).

Most people, however, tend to indulge excessively in foods containing high levels of carbohydrates, "I think the low carb diet is a good choice, as most times when we eat more eat more carbs" she said.

The investigation of Duke University

The second survey is the University of Duke, which was attended by 120 volunteers. During the investigation, both groups also receiving food supplements and vitamins, and after six months those who cut carbohydrates lost twice the weight (12 pounds) on average, than those who reduced fat, which on average average lost about 6 kg.

However, as noted in the survey, the weight loss is consistent with falling levels of cholesterol, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular problems.

"We can no longer ignore the diets based on low-carb" notes a commentator Dr. memo. Walter Willett, the Department for Public Health of Harvard.

However, as noted by the researchers they need to be carried out more work to clarify whether these diets are safe for the organization long term.

In other words, before "surrendering" to a diet - lightning, in view of summers trips to the beach, it is advisable to consider first what is particularly good for your health and secondly for your appearance!
