A Little Bit Of Info About The Wii

By:

The Wii system produced by Nintendo has been one of the most successful and groundbreaking video game systems ever produced. Its phenomenal success is due in large measure to its interactive nature, to the innovation of its controllers, and also to the fact that its games are meant for a crowd. Here is a little bit more info about it.

Wii actually stands for "we," and that name pretty much says it all as far as the purpose of the system. It is intended to bring people together, and anyone who has witnessed a roomful of people having fun doing Wii Bowling would have a hard time disputing that Nintendo succeeded in doing something very new.

Although the idea for the Wii was conceived in 2001, it didn't have its official launch until September of 2006. By then, the prototype for the system had already generated huge amounts of buzz among the worldwide gaming public, and the Wii's release was met with great anticipation.

The Wii remote is what really distinguishes it the most from all previous systems: its wireless design makes it convenient, and the technology of it allows users to operate it using physical gestures in addition to the familiar push button system. This innovation, along with the types of games Nintendo produced to go with them, effectively bridged the generational gap, and older folks could enjoy gaming along with kids and young adults.

In fact, the Wii has become a popular fixture at nursing homes, where residents can get a little bit of exercise without even leaving their chairs! The new Wii Fit game plays into the physical benefits of the system by offering different exercise programs performed in a virtual atmosphere.

Although the company knew that the system would be hugely popular at the time of its release, they did not produce enough systems to meet the demand. People in the United States and in the United Kingdom lined up around the block whenever a store announced that it would be receiving additional shipments, and the shortage created a gaming public frenzy of sorts. In order to keep up with the demand, Nintendo now produces 2.4 million units a month, eclipsing the records set by previous systems.

The original name for the Wii was going to be "Revolution," and with this system, Nintendo has indeed created a revolution in how video games will be produced from now on. The success of the Wii has shown that with innovation and creativity, a company can indeed produce a system whose hardware and games transcend generations, so that everyone can have a great time together.
