A How To Guide For Installing A Powerstroke Egr Delete Kit

By:

A person can purchase a Powerstroke EGR delete kit online from a few manufacturers and can be installed at home. The process generally takes approximately 6-8 hours to complete and is performed by removing the existing system and replacing it with the new one. The package contains cooler back off plates, a valve back off plate and a new stainless steel up-pipe.

The following steps will explain how to properly perform the installation of the new parts. To begin installing the new parts, a person must first disconnect the battery or batteries in order to prevent any unnecessary shorts. The next step is to remove the coolant bottle, when the coolant bottle has been removed the air cleaner assembly is next to go. To remove the cleaner the band clamp must be removed at the point where it connects to the turbo and then disconnect the air minder, mass-air and intake air sensor.

The FICM module must be taken off and is connected to the left valve cover, while removing the module the turbo intake tubes need must be disconnected also. The turbo is removed at this time by loosening the exhaust down pipe and one each manifold and disconnecting the VGT connector. From there the turbo drain tube and pedestal mounting bracket are taken off.

Remove and clean the valve assembly freeing it of all carbon then replace the gaskets and reinstall the valve. Disconnect the intake inlet and throttle plate assembly, by doing this the fan shroud that covers the top belt can be taken off. This piece requires extreme care to remove because the clips are fragile and easily broken.

The alternator needs must be taken off by removing the all bolts except for the last one as the belt tension will pull the alternator forward. When it is disconnected tying back the belts will help when installing the new parts. The injector harness needs to be taken off next, then remove the engine harness and move it out of the way.

Take the intake off and clean it thoroughly making sure all the carbon is removed, when that is done remove the cooler assembly and install the steel plug. The block off plate is the next part to install and needs to be put between two cooler gaskets using silicone. After the plate is installed, connect new hoses, o-rings and the v-band clamp gasket.

Once the plates and hoses have been connected, install new intake gaskets using silicone to make sure they are sealed properly. When the intake is back together a person can proceed to reconnecting all the wiring harnesses and turbo assembly. After the turbo is connected it is crucial to make sure all the pipes line up before tightening the pedestal mounting bracket.

Upon reinstalling all the above items the installation of the alternator, throttle body, FCIM module, and brackets can be completed. The air cleaner, coolant bottle and batteries are the last parts to be connected. Be sure to double check all connections before finalizing the installation of the Powerstroke EGR delete kit.
