A Guide To Underfloor Heating

By:

Underfloor heating is a great solution for the modern home as it provides heating from the floor up, rather than heating the ceiling space first like radiators do. All underfloor systems essentially work the same, with a heating element that warms a heat spreading device that is laid underneath the floor. Good underfloor heating will create even warmth across the floor; this can be supplied to the element by either warm water or electricity.

So if you should decide that you want to have underfloor heating then where in the house is the ideal place to have it? Many people choose their bathroom to heat from the floor as bathrooms tend to have cold stone floors that are chilly to step on after a warm bath. Conservatories and extensions are also popular choices and are now often installed whilst building work for these rooms are taking place.

However technology is advancing and other rooms in the home are also benefiting from underfloor heating. Electric systems are getting far more adventurous and there are systems to match most floor types. The modern home can have heated laminated, lino, stone and even carpet so there really is no limit to the type of room you want heated in this way.

The main benefits of underfloor heating is clear to any home owner, any room will become a warm, welcoming place underfoot. Also you will free up a lot of space in your home along walls and floor space. Design will not have to be compromised by the look of large radiators and the modern minimal look can be achieved easily. Also wet systems can be integrated with your home's radiator system so you can keep same radiators in rooms that you want.

Wet under floor heating systems have also been known to be up to thirty per cent more efficient than radiators so overall there are many different reasons why you may want to switch to under floor. However there are a few things you may wish to keep in mind when making the decision to change, electric systems can cost up to forty per cent more than wet systems. They may also be unsuitable for some types of flooring such as wood. In worst cases it can also even cause furniture to warp so make sure that you speak to a professional who will be able to tell you if your home is suitable.
