A Guide To Tattoo Supplies

By:

Like many people I sometimes get a hankering to have a tattoo, but the thought of journeying to some out of the way place and allowing a complete stranger - often with elaborate hair and questionable personal hygiene poke me with a needle doesn't appeal. So I imagine to myself I might as well do it myself. What could possibly go wrong? Before you answer that I have taken precautions - namely a quick search on the internet and a whole load of tattoo supplies.

Some of the health and safety bods among you are predicting catastrophe, but I feel confident that the local A&E will be spared my regular visit this week. As anyone with any nouse about the internet knows you can gain all sorts of knowledge and expertise by looking it up on a search engine. It's even better these days as you don't necessarily have to keep faith with Google. You have something called Bing these days which sounds a much more sensible name than Google as well as the old tried and trusted 'Ask Jeeves'.

So Jeeves, if I'm looking for tattoo supplies what will I need and where should I go? It's a simple question and yields a straightforward result - a simple list of various suppliers. I set to work and start browsing. Immediately I run into more problems than I thought possible. I will need all sorts of things: gloves for starters as well all sorts of sterile equipment and accessories. This is more complicated than it needs to be. I make a mental note to complain to someone.

What I need is a special tattoo kit, full of tattoo supplies - everything I need to get started. This includes a professional standard tattoo machine, something called a footswich, ink and a collection of pre-sterilised needles. In short there is everything I need for a good DIY job.

Sadly, though it is at around this point that my courage deserts me. Sanity returns and I choose instead to consult a specialist or better still forget the idea altogether. Perhaps I'll take the sissy's option and choose a transfer. Sure it'll smudge as soon as it rains, but for those brief few days, hours or minutes, I'll look pretty cool.

It is worth noting that these kits are not for the amateur, or indeed the careless fool like me. They are intended to be used only under the supervision of a specially trained and qualified artists. There are homemade tattoo supplies available but if you want my opinion this is something you don't want to try at home.
