A Guide To Mens Geek Wear

By:

It used to be that being a nerd was only just a surefire way to get a beat down in high school. That was before Bill Gates became the richest man in the world. And if Steve Jobs of Apple is not the arbiter of super cool tech hipness, then we don't know who is. All the products that start with the letter "i" have gone out of the bounds of technology to become a fashion statement as well. Geek wear is no longer having thick black glasses and a pocket protector in your pocket.

The future trends are that the clothes and the accessories will become part of the overall human computer interface. The head band has given way to the Bluetooth ear bud phone as a required accessory for going for a jog. There are clothes that contain computer elements and the trend is called "computer wear." This eFashion has already produced some commercially available products.

Levi sells a jean jacket (currently in Europe) that has a musical keyboard contained in the fabric of the jacket itself. Guys get one of those right away if you want to be the life of the next party. The girls will not be able to stop touching your jacket even if all they can play is "Mary Had a Little Lamb." It washes just like a regular jean jacket and that is super cool.

Some of the computer wear has safety or medical applications such as a shirt that can monitor the heart beat of a person with a heart condition and sound an alarm or even automatically dial 911 through the Bluetooth phone if there is heart failure. Another application is the monitoring of the blood sugar for diabetics. This computer wear is currently used by athletes to monitor their vital functions while they are in training or in competition.

Another is a shirt that can tell doctors where a bullet hole is because the bullet breaks the circuitry contained within the shirt upon entry. There are also clothes containing GPS tracking systems which can help parents monitor and find their children in the case of an emergency or an abduction. So guys you can buy your wife or girlfriend a new dress and really find out where she spends her time when she is away from you. These products already exist in various stages of usage or prototype.

The power to drive these computer clothes comes from solar panels sewn into the fabric and researchers at MIT are working on a process to print solar panels on both paper and fabric by using special inks that create the necessary electronics when layered on the fabric by a printing process. There are also fabrics that make good electronic connections and are good electrical conductors, even fabrics that can create power from being flexed.

Identification can be made of the wearer through the use of RFID which is the same technology that causes store alarms to go off to catch shoplifters as they try to leave the store. One use of this would be to have your car, or your house recognize you and open the door or turn on your favorite music when you walk into a room. The advances in smart house technology combine very nicely with the new computer clothes. The applications are limited only by our imaginations.
