A Groovy Trip To Swinging London

By:

I'll resist the temptation to write this in an Austin Powers-style voice - but London IS a swinging town, baby! I always wished I could have been there in the era that Mike Meyers hilariously lampooned - with Twiggy, the mods and all the the cheesy psychedelia of the mid-60s London scene - but believe me, if you're looking to party hearty and hang out all night in discotheques and groovy clubs, London still is the place to be.

It's hard to imagine a city with a more exciting and varied nightlife. It's size and multi-culti atmosphere makes for a dazzling array of choices, from live music venues to dance clubs that go all night and into the next day. London has every sub-culture and musical sub-genre imaginable and many you probably couldn't have imagined. Every night, and especially on the weekends, thousands and thousands of young (and not so young) people hit the streets in search of the latest and hippest joint to dance and drink in until the wee hours and beyond. It can be exhaustingly entertaining and the impending, inexorable approach of Monday morning is the only thing that apparently keeps some of the locals from dancing themselves to death.

I love a city that never sleeps and London is definitely an insomniac's delight. Many clubs stay open until 5am, and at places like EGG, the party starts at 5 am on Sundays! To keep the energy going, there are plenty of cheap late-night food joints - kebabs, falafel, fish & chips - all are available in every borough and are vital if you want to stay vertical for more dancing and drinking.

There are cool, cheap Mayfair hotels if you're there for a visit - look online for the best deals and to find one near the action, although the action is all over town! Some London hotels cater to the late night crowd, with 24/7 desk service, in case you find yourself suddenly in need of a room, which does happen from time to time and for a variety of reasons - at least in my experience, baby! Shagadelic, indeed!
