A Gospel Snapshot! How To Receive Bible Revelation! What Is Bible Prophecy?

By:

What is the subject of Bible prophecy? What is it that the prophets of old longed to see and understand? What are these things I Peter 1:12 tells us even the angels desire to look into? Was it really the end times, and the Antichrist, and the future of Israel, and the Battle of Armageddon?

These things were interesting, but not what the prophets focused on. Peter says they inquired of God and searched diligently so they could prophesy of the GRACE that was coming to us in the New Covenant gospel (I Pet 1:10). Being under a system if law, it was very hard for them to understand and comprehend what we were going to be given, and what we would experience in life, when the KING, and his GOSPEL KINGDOM came into being (Mk 1:14-15).

It would be like trying to understand jet airplane travel, when all you know is the horse and buggy. The car has not even been invented yet. They couldn't understand jet planes, and prophets couldn't understand gospel grace.

They knew something was coming that was going to be spiritually unbelievably wonderful for us. Peter calls it the salvation of our souls (I Pet 1:9). I Peter 1:11 says they tried to figure out what the Spirit of Christ meant when it spoke of the suffering of Christ (the cross), and the GLORY that would follow this.

Put this in perspective. We talk about wanting to talk to Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Isaiah and David when we get to heaven. But they are going to want to talk to US more! They are going to want to hear about our experiences in the faith, glory, and the power of the gospel given to us - that they couldn't even begin to understand.

But like the prophets of old, most Christians today don't understand the glory of the gospel - the revelation of God's Kingdom - Bible prophecy - or much else. Why? Because, like the prophets of old, they're trying to understand it light of the Old Covenant law. The prophets of old couldn't understand it this way, and neither can we! Thus, so many Christians live in defeat and frustration today.

You see, ALL things have been made new (II Cor 5:17). The NEW cannot be understood in the light of the OLD. Paul says the Old blinds our minds and puts a veil over our hearts (II Cor 3:14-16). It is what Satan uses to blind us to the glorious gospel of Christ (II Cor 4:4).

Paul contrasts Instructors in Christ v. Fathers of the Gospel (I Cor 4:15). We seek instructors to tell us how to live the Christian life, and get the most out of it. What they do is go back to the law and explain to us what they themselves don't understand, and teach a 'do do religion' (I Tim 1:7). They teach us to walk in the flesh, not in the spirit.

Instead, what we need are fathers to mentor and lead us in the revelation of the gospel, and the finished work of Christ. This shows us how Jesus has fulfilled all the things all those prophets of old were praying and searching about (Lk 24:44). This is what I've been coached in for 20 years, and what I now share and minister as The Gospel Coach. Paul says this is what fulfills the word of God in us (Col 1:23-25). This is why he calls the gospel 'the power of God' (Rom 1:16-17).
