A fresh coat of paint can do wonders when I need to sell my house. Visit any paint department and you'll be amazed at the selection. In fact, there are so many color and texture options it's hard to limit my thinking. But, since I am remodeling a house to sell to homeowners I try to think ahead to what others may prefer, not my own preferences. I find that sticking to the basics works for me.

Most investors who buy a house to remodel and resell are in the habit of buying a whole lot of off-white paint for all the walls, using a satin textured paint in kitchens, bathrooms and hallways, and a flat texture in living and sleeping areas. Personally, I think that's a really good idea and it's what I do, too. She's a true professional who actually comes to my house and gives me recommendations based on current fashion and demographic preferences, which is very valuable. I don't keep up on it myself but there are regional trends in color fashion, and there are also ethnic and age-related preferences that I just don't follow either.

But a good decorator keeps track of these things and she will be able to suggest paint colors and textures that are more than likely to attract your perfect buyers. When I need to sell my house and I really want it to stand out from the crowd, I call my decorator to help me buy paint because it's made a difference for me many times in the past. She's a tremendous help.

Knowing which of my houses to paint completely off-white and which to give my "secret weapon" decorator a call to get some help, well, that is sort of a judgment call. If I only need to sell my house, my own home, I would definitely call a decorator to get professional advice.
