Reconstructed a mere 200 yards from the original site of the Globe Theatre designed and used by Shakespeare himself lies the modern day tribute to the greatest of all bards whose timeless words echo through the ages. Opened in 1996, the wood and thatch structure has been accurately constructed employing building techniques that were used nearly 400 years ago during Shakespeare's time. The pet project of American director and actor Sam Wanamaker the 16th century playhouse is a larger than life replica of the premises in which Shakespeare wrote and staged his works. As an attraction that provides both entertainment and education on the Elizabethan age and its theatrical performances, the venue plays hosts to Shakespearean dramas from April to October each year.
