A Few Tips To Help You Pull Off A Surprise Party

By:

I love surprises, so it's no wonder that I have always been dreaming of having a surprise birthday party thrown for me. It has yet to happen in my life, but considering I am currently at the ripe old age of 22, I have plenty of time to keep dreaming.

If you have a friend or family member that might be delighted at the prospect of a surprise birthday bash, then make 2010 the year to do it! But unless you have a knack for this kind of thing, you might wonder how to plan the perfect party that will knock their socks off.

Allow me to share some tips!

As you have probably already guessed, the planning portion is the trickiest. Like almost any other party, advanced organization is frequently best, but on the other hand, the longer that you plan, the more likely the birthday boy or girl is to figure out the big secret.

So it is best to recruit as many others into the process as possible. One of the best ruses to use is to have a close friend, significant other, or spouse promise to take the birthday boy or girl out for a special dinner. That way, he or she plans to be celebrating somehow and will not make other plans that might get in the way of the party.

Unless there is a spouse, significant other, or roommate that is "in on it," it is typically best to avoid using the birthday boy/girl's own residence for the big bash. There are too many complications that can arise when you choose a locale over which you have little to no control.

If you cannot use someone's residence, consider renting a party room at a restaurant or some similar location. Some restaurants only require a reservation rather than a rental, so spend some time calling around at possible locations before making a final selection.

If you decide to use a restaurant, then find out if they give any freebies for birthdays. Many restaurants I have visited offer a free dessert to any person there to celebrate, and that is always fun. But it is even better to have unique cakes custom-made for the occasion!

Be cautious about how you send invitations. Virtually any form can be discovered--text message, snail mail, e-mail, and even word-of-mouth. I would suggest using a specially-formulated e-mail address and a misleading subject line, but this runs the risk of invitations being deleted by the invitees.

It will be ultimately up to you to decide which method will be best for this party. It is definitely challenging to pull of the perfect surprise party, but it is well worth it when you see the birthday boy or girl's face light up with shock and delight.
