Being a festival vendor is hard work, but it is a great way to make money out of doing something that you love. Selling at festivals can be very interesting, as these festivals usually have a theme or a reason for a celebration, and the people who come to them are there to enjoy themselves. Festivals can be for any reason music or dance festivals, historic festivals celebrating a centenary or a certain period in history, or festivals celebrating a certain event such as a historic battle or an annual harvest.
If you want to be a festival vendor that works at both festivals and fairs, it is probably a good idea if you work in food rather than selling goods. This is because, whilst at fairs there are all types of booths selling anything, at festivals the organizers may sometimes only want booths that are connected with the subject of the festival. This is something to bear in mind. If the organizers do restrict the booths this way, you can bet that
food booths will not be restricted, as these are always in demand at any type of event.
To be a successful festival vendor, you need to be organized. You must make sure you are prepared for any event when you attend a festival. All vendors should have folding tables to take to events in case the organizers do not provide these. Of course, the efficient vendor will have found this out beforehand, but will take the tables with them anyway just in case the one provided is not big enough, or in case they need to set up a small table behind them for convenient storage. As well as tables, another essential item is a comfortable folding chair, unless you like spending hours on end on your feet.
There are many other things you must take with you as a well-prepared vendor. Always make sure you have somewhere to keep your takings. At some places, it is perfectly safe to have cash tin, but in others, you would be better advised to have a money belt or bag around your waist. Always make sure as well that you start out with a float of coins and small denomination notes for change. Someone is bound to offer you a large note in payment, and you do not want to be caught short.
Always have business cards you can give out to interested customers if you cannot afford professional ones, it is very easy to make these on your home computer.
If you are going to be outdoors and you are not sure about the weather, make sure you dress in layers of clothing that you can remove and add as the weather demands. This could also apply for indoor events, as these can vary in temperature as well. In addition, make sure you always take refreshments to keep you going, especially bottled water. After all, you do not want to spend all your profits on buying food and drink there!
The life of a festival vendor can be very tiring, but there is no doubt that it can also be very rewarding. You can make money from something you love and meet people at the same time.
